From a tricycle
to 400 hives.
John Patrick Maliwat drove a tricycle in Nagcarlan for four years. In 2019, with his father needing routine dialysis, he went looking for a way to earn more — and a friend pointed him toward beekeeping.
He spent his savings on training: five days at the Golden Queen Bee Training Center in Rizal, a six-day seminar at the Honey Bee Center in Sta. Cruz, then a full year volunteering to sharpen his hands. He started with a single colony. The plan was to keep bees abroad — until the pandemic closed that door and he chose to build it here at home instead.
Today he tends ten colonies of European honeybees and roughly 400 colonies of native stingless bees across seven sites in Nagcarlan — a full-time farmer and consultant who still raises, harvests, and bottles everything by his own two hands. That's where Masagana begins.
Trained from scratch
Spends his savings on beekeeping courses in Rizal and Sta. Cruz, then a year volunteering to learn the craft.
One colony at home
Grounded by the pandemic, he trades the plan to work abroad for a single hive in Nagcarlan.
Farm-to-formula
The first batch of Propolis BeeShield is bottled by hand from our own hives.
400+ colonies
Ten European honeybee colonies and 400+ stingless colonies across seven sites — still tended by one beekeeper.
Why we do it
the hard way.
Most brands buy propolis and print a label. We chose the slower path — because it's the only way to know exactly what's in every bottle.
Farm-to-formula
We control every step, from hive to bottle. Nothing changes hands, so nothing gets watered down. What our bees make is exactly what you get.
Filipino stingless bees
Our propolis comes from tetragonula biroi — tiny, stingless bees native to the Philippines, prized for an especially potent propolis. Filipino bees, Filipino land.
No middlemen, no mystery
One beekeeper raises, harvests, and bottles it all. You can trace every drop back to a single pair of hands in Nagcarlan.
Natural with a reason.
Nature with a reason
Three real ingredients, each with a job. Nothing added just to fill the bottle.
Proudly Filipino
Made on Filipino land, by Filipino hands, from bees found almost nowhere else on earth.
Made for real voices
Built for teachers, BPO agents, performers, and parents — people who can't afford to go quiet.
Honest by default
No inflated claims, no hidden ingredients. Just what's in the bottle, told plainly.
"I didn't come from the wellness industry. I came from a tricycle and a backyard full of bees. Everything Masagana makes still starts right there."
